What we do
What we handle for builders
Construction runs to project timelines, not the financial year. Here is the work we do across the year, and how the pieces fit together.
Compliance and reporting
Financial statements, company and trust returns, BAS and IAS, payroll and payroll tax, TPAR lodgements for your subcontractors, and ATO correspondence. Your QBCC annual reporting is prepared by the same team, from the same numbers.
Structure and planning
Entity structuring so plant and property sit apart from operating risk, tax planning ahead of year end rather than after it, job-level profitability, and cash flow forecasting through the gap between progress claims and costs.
Our approach
Construction accounting is a different discipline.
Compliance, cash flow and structure all behave differently in construction.
Retentions sit with the principal for months. Progress claims lag the costs already spent. Plant ends up owned in the wrong entity. A licence comes under pressure because the financial information was not presented the way QBCC expects it.
Our job is to keep the compliance right, keep the structure protecting what you have built, and keep the advice connected to how the business actually earns. That means regular conversations through the year, not a set of accounts handed over in October.
QBCC compliance done right
We prepare MFR reports and annual financial statements to the standard QBCC expects, and we know what a change in revenue triggers.
Profit at the job level
Year-end results tell you what happened. Job costing tells you why. Seeing margin per project lets you price better and stop losses sooner.
Asset ownership and plant
Plant and vehicles belong in the right entity. We structure ownership to keep it clear of operating risk and claim the depreciation due.
Mixed crews and subbies
Employees and subcontractors together create real exposure. We handle TPAR, super obligations, payroll tax and contractor classification.
Why Wiseman
Deliberately focused on you
Rather than serving every kind of business, we’ve built our practice around growth-minded, family-owned businesses. Here’s what that means in practice.
Built for family business
We focus on established, family-owned businesses turning over $1M or more, with real depth in construction, professional services and real estate.
A dedicated client manager
Your advice comes from an experienced client manager who knows your business.
Independent & conflict-free
We don’t sell financial products, lending or property. Nothing we recommend is shaped by what we have to sell.
Proactive all year
Regular advisory meetings and Xero-based KPI monitoring, so we help you plan ahead rather than only reporting on the year that’s already gone.
Value, not price
We compete on the quality of advice and the results it drives, a long-term partnership, not the cheapest return in town.
Genuinely local
An Ipswich firm that understands South East Queensland business, growing alongside the owners we work with.
Do you prepare our QBCC reporting as well as the tax and BAS?
Yes. Annual QBCC reporting and MFR reports are prepared in house, from the same accounts and the same Xero file we already maintain for you. There is more detail on our QBCC accountants page.
We run subcontractors as well as employees. Can you handle that?
Yes, and it is one of the more common places construction businesses get caught out. We handle TPAR lodgements, super obligations for eligible contractors, payroll tax and how workers are classified in the first place.
Should our plant and equipment sit in the operating company?
Often it should not. Keeping plant, vehicles and property out of the entity carrying the operating risk is one of the first things we look at. That work sits under structuring and asset protection.
Can you show us profitability by job rather than just the year?
Yes. Year-end accounts tell you the result, and job-level reporting tells you which work earned it. We set this up in Xero so you can see margin per project while the job is still running.
Do we need to be on Xero to work with you?
We run on Xero so both of us are working from current numbers rather than figures that are months old. If you are not on Xero yet, we can set it up and train your team as part of getting started.
Do you only work with construction businesses in Ipswich?
No. Our office is in Newtown, Ipswich, and we like meeting clients face to face, but working on Xero means we support builders and contractors across Springfield, Brisbane West, Toowoomba, Logan and further afield.
